Could you introduce yourself and describe your role at Soitec?
My name is Jérémy Tintillier, and I've been a product quality technician at Soitec for seven years. My background is a bit atypical: originally, I had a degree in commerce and accounting, but after my studies, I had trouble finding a job. That's when I discovered the semiconductor industry and joined the quality department as a production operator. I was so fascinated by this job that I decided to go back to school to specialize in quality. After several experiences in different companies in the Grenoble area, I joined Soitec.
At Soitec, my job is to guarantee the quality of manufactured products by following procedures and managing non-conformities. I'm often called upon to intervene in the event of a problem to secure products, a process known as “containment”. My role is varied: I divide my time between the cleanroom, meetings, and exchanges with different departments such as process, yield and operators. This versatility is what I particularly appreciate in my job.
What motivates you in your day-to-day work?
What I appreciate most of all is the diversity of the tasks. There's a “standard” aspect to my job, but I never know what my day will consist of. Quality crises, continuous improvement actions, exchanges with different departments... all this makes each day different. I love this variety, versatility and contact with so many different people.
What skills are essential in your field?
Rigor and precision are essential, especially in a sector as demanding as ours. We produce not only for today, but also for the future, and that's a great source of pride. You also need to be able to adapt, as the industry is constantly evolving. Last but not least, strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential to collaborate effectively with different departments.
How does Soitec value its employees?
At Soitec, mutual aid and team spirit are at the heart of everything, particularly through the value “We win as one team”. For me, this phrase perfectly reflects the atmosphere I feel on a daily basis. Unlike other professional experiences, here everyone is encouraged to express themselves and grow. I've been with Soitec for over seven years now, and I still feel this sense of solidarity.
How can you attract more young talent to the industry?
We need to communicate differently to reach out to the younger generation, highlighting values they hold dear such as ecology, diversity and well-being in the workplace. Offering innovative projects, career prospects and attractive working conditions can also make a difference. It's essential to showcase the richness of industrial professions and promote know-how, because this sector has so much to offer both men and women.
What advice would you give to those wishing to start a career in industry?
Find out all you can about the jobs, the companies and the sector before taking the plunge. The industry may seem daunting with its demands and hours, but it offers real opportunities and a strong sense of belonging. It's a sector of the future, at the cutting edge of innovation and high technology. Although it presents challenges, industry is an essential pillar, rich in know-how and prospects.
How do you see the place of women in industry today?
As far as I'm concerned, women have just as much a place in industry as men. I've noticed that the gap is narrowing, and that women are increasingly being offered positions of responsibility. I find that very significant. I'm proud to work in a company that values equality and diversity, with a genuine desire to offer the same opportunities to all.
Any final words to encourage young people to join the industry?
The industry offers a wide range of professions, whether for operators, technicians or engineers. It's a constantly evolving sector, where everyone can find their place and fulfill their potential. Whatever your profile or gender, industry is a rich and diverse field, with much to offer those who want to contribute.
